Using Loving Support to Grow and Glow in WIC: Breastfeeding Training for Local WIC Staff is a curriculum created by Every Mother, Inc. for the USDA Food and Nutrition Service designed to provide all staff who interact with WIC participants the knowledge and skills they need to provide effective breastfeeding promotion and support to WIC participants.
WIC has a long history of promoting and supporting breastfeeding, focusing on helping mothers make an informed choice about infant feeding by providing evidence-based breastfeeding information, encouraging mothers to breastfeed exclusively, providing anticipatory guidance, and creating and advocating for a supportive environment that will help mothers carry out their breastfeeding intentions.
Every Mother, Inc. has provided regional train-the-trainer events around the US and in 2010 will be providing trainings for WIC agencies across the country. It is our hope that staff in every WIC clinic will provide a cohesive circle of care to give consistent breastfeeding messages and support for WIC mothers.
